Meet the 2021/2022 “Patroller of the Year”
Congratulations to Will Vaughan on receiving the NJ Region’s Rick Browse “Patroller of the Year” Award for the 2021/2022 Season! It was presented by NJ Region Director Jeff Haines and NWAC Patrol Director Harriet Frawley at the NWAC Ski Patrol’s Fall Meeting on Sunday, Oct 9, 2022.
Will joined NSP for the 2008/2009 season and is now an Alpine Patroller with Senior OEC credentials. He patrols with the National Winter Activity Center Ski Patrol, where he’s the Medical Advisor, Assistant Patrol Director, and a Mountain Leader. He’s an OEC Instructor Trainer, and has been the NJ Region EMS Advisor since 2016. When he isn’t patrolling, he’s a Flight Nurse/Paramedic at Atlantic Air Ambulance.
Will has made significant contributions to the NJ Region as well as National:
– He secured Medical Direction Agreements with Atlantic Health for patrols and ski areas within the region to provide guidance and review of our local Standards of Care.
– Produced the videos “Spinal Motion Restriction for NJ Ski Patrollers” and “Rethinking Oxygen for Ski Patrollers” as introductions of these topics to region patrollers.
– Updated our Region’s OEC protocols to stay current with NJ State EMS protocols, often to be followed shortly by the same updates being made by National.
– Made contributions to NSP by making extensive corrections to the oxygen section of the 6th Edition of the OEC manual resulting in revisions to the text.
In recognition of these contributions to the NJ Region and NSP, this year’s NJ Region “Rick Browse” Patroller of the Year Award is presented to Will Vaughan.
