The Outdoor Emergency Transportation (OET) program provides NSP members with on snow
training for skiing, riding, telemark and toboggan handling skills. The NJ region’s mission is to provide membership with credentialed education and leadership training in outdoor emergency transportation. Training is provided at local mountains, and regional clinics.
Patrollers are trained in techniques to safely transport injured guests. Successful completion requires competency in skiing and a toboggan handing practical examination. This training must be refreshed by all patrollers every year IN classes scheduled during the ski season.
At the candidate level, this training begins as soon as there is snow on the hill and runs throughout the ski season. We begin with basic ski/snowboard skills, introduce some skills unique to patrolling and then progress on to toboggan handling, such as delivering empty rescue toboggans to an accident scene and transporting injured patients down the hill. There is a lot to learn. And it’s a lot of fun!
